John H. All was born in Indiana c.1846 and died in Fresno County, California before 1900. He was the son of Jesse and Caroline All. I have found John's surname spelled Aull and All. His descendants used All. His parents, Jesse and Caroline, according to the 1880 census, were both born in Kentucky. He served in the Civil War in the 85th Indiana Infantry. He married Laura Annie Zediker, daughter of David S. Zediker and Eliza Robbins.
In the 1870 US census Jackson Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, John appears in the household of David Cummins, age 24, born in Indiana and giving his occupation as sawmill worker. In 1880, John and Sarah appear in the US Census for Monroe, Linn County, Iowa. John is age 34, born in Indiana, of Kentucky-born parents, and he is working as a section hand. Sarah is age 20, born in Iowa. Also in the household are their two sons John W. and Early, as well as John W. Zediker, Laura’s brother, working as a section hand.
John and Laura settled in Fresno County, California after 1880. Voter registration records for John start in the early 1880's in various communities in Fresno County.
We believe that John is buried in Mendocino Cemetery, Parlier, Fresno Co., California. There is a military-style gravestone in poor condition, in the Zediker portion of Mendocino Cemetery, where only the unit name is still legible. The unit is “85th Ind. Inf,” the unit in which John served. We know he died before 1900 because in the census for that year, Laura is listed as head of household.
Children of Laura Annie Zediker and husband John All.
