From the book The Royal New Zealand Fencibles 1847-1852: John b. 1802 at Barony, Glasgow, Scotland. He enlisted with the 3rd Reg. and was stationed at the Tower of London. He married Agnes Thompson 5th Dec 1826 Manchester Cathedral, Lancashire. He was discharged in 1847 after 25 years service. He left from London North with Agnes, and 5 of their 6 children... They lived in Ōnehunga, his occupation shoemaker.

Biography

John Murdoch was born on February 27, 1802 in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, North of Glasgow, Scotland (United Kingdom) and was baptized on March 7, 1802 in Barony,Lanark,Scotland. His parents were William Murdock and Eleanor (McConnell) Murdock.

John married Agnes (Thompson) Murdoch on June 27, 1826 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.

Together they had the following children:

1. Mary (Murdoch) Coldicutt;
2. William Henry Murdock;
3. Agnes (Murdoch) Kilgour;
4. John Murdoch;
5. Edward Murdoch;
6. Elizabeth Murdoch.

He died on September 29, 1856 in Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand and was buried after September 29, 1856 in St Peters Anglican Church, Onehunga, Auckland.
