3. John, the eldest son was a burgess in parliament.for the town of Rye in Sussex, 5,8, and 9 Henry V. He married Beatrix, daughter and heir of Sir John Hawkwood, Knt. by whom he had one son,

who married Elizabeth, daughter and heir to John Michelgrove, Esq. (by Mary his wife, daughter of Sir Wm. Sydney of Penshurst, Kent) by whom he had three sons;*

• 1, Richard of Patcham, in Sussex, who by Mary, daughter of Sir Richard Urdeswick, Knt. was ancestor to the Shelley's of Patcham;
• 2, Sir William, who continued the line;
• 3, Edward, who was of Warminghurst Park, in Sussex, and father of Henry Shelley of Warminghurst, Esq. who married Anne, daughter and heir to Richard Sackvile of Buckhurst, Esq. and was ancestor to those of that place.

• Bridget, who married Sir Toby Chauncey of Edgcote (d 1608) and died in 1579

He died January 3, 1526.
