Notes
WRIGHT AND KINDRED FAMILIES
The Wright Family that I am researching lived in Frederick, Bedford, Montgomery, Rockbridge Counties of Virginia before migrating to Russell County, Virginia ca 1840. The earliest Wright that has been identified would be a John Wright born between 1765 and 1784, with a wife unknown at this time. John Wright Sr. can be found living in Bedford County, Virginia and was listed on the 1813 and 1814 Personal Property Tax List. There was also a John Wright Jr. listed adjacent to John Wright Sr. in the 1814 Bedford County, Virginia Personal Property Tax List. John Wright Jr. was born in Frederick County, Va. ca. 1785. The years following, lists John Sr. and John Jr. in Montgomery County, Virginia on the 1816 Tax Lists and 1820 Census. The 1821 Personal Property Tax Lists for Montgomery County, Va. listed John Wright Sr. Records for John Wright Sr. disappear after 1821, but the John Wright Jr. family migrated to Russell County, Va. sometime after 1821. The Wright Family may have lived in Sullivan County Tn. for a short time before ending up in Russell County, Va. Robert Wright, son of John Sr., listed a daughter born in Tennessee. We can see by the 1840 census that John Wright Jr. was in Russell County, Va. and from the 1850 Russell County Census we can clearly see that John Wright Jr. was married to Martha (Patsy) McGlothlin born ca 1790. I found a marriage record for John and Martha in Rockbridge County, Va. They were married in 1810 and before they made their move to Russell County, Va. they were parents of Robert born 1812, Bedford County, Va., John Wright born 1814, Rockbridge County, Va., and Parris Wright born 1816, Montgomery County, Va. We now can see the census and John Wright Jr. becomes John Wright Sr. with the birth of his son John Wright Jr. b. 1814. This would indicate that John Wright Sr. born ca. 1765 had possibly died.
Early land records show that John Sr. born ca 1785, owned land in Russell County and in Wise County, Va This was the same land because Wise County was formed from Russell in 1856.
While it is certain that his father was John Wright and likely from Ireland or Scotland since that is backed by family legend and DNA evidence.

"Early land records show that John Sr. born ca 1785, owned land in Russell County and in Wise County, Va This was the same land because Wise County was formed from Russell in 1856. I will proceed with the descendants of John Wright Jr., born 1814 who married Susan Jordan. This is my husband's line and I will continue the tree down to his Grand Parents. John Jr. and Susan had twelve children, Eleven daughters and one son. James C. Wright, son of John and Susan, was born 1838 Russell County, Va. James was listed on the 1850 and 1860 as being born later than 1838. This may have been intentionally in order to protect him from going into the Civil War, but James decided to enlist in the Union Army in Lawrence County, Ky. He had married in Lawrence County, Ky in 1865 to Amanda Vickers who was born in Russell County, Va. James and Amanda was on the 1870 Lawrence County, Ky Census with three children, but James stated in his Pension Records that he went back to Russell County after the war, but he made the move shortly after to Lawrence County and then on to Jackson County, Ky. James and Amanda had a total of twelve children, six sons and six daughters. James and Amanda/s first son John Sherman Wright, born in 1866 in Russell County, Va. married Laurenda Truett in Jackson County, Ky on 1 Feb. 1888. Their first Son Sam Wright was born 8 Apr 1889 and married Lilly Ward 10 Apr 1911 in Jackson County, Ky" [4]
