John de Sutton, Lord of Dudley Castle was born circa 1290.2 He was the son of Sir Richard de Sutton and Isabel Patrick.2 John de Sutton, Lord of Dudley Castle married Margery de Somery, Baroness Dudley.2,1 John de Sutton, Lord of Dudley Castle was engaged in wars in Scotland between 1316 and 1320.1 He was in the retinue of his brother-in-law, John de Somery between 1318 and 1329.1 He was knighted in 1326.1 Lord of Dudley Castle at Staffordshire, England, in 1326.1 He died between 1327 and 1338.2 He was gave up the manors of Sedgley, Swinford and Rowley-Somery, as well as other lands, not obtaining restitution until Edward III became king.1 He was accused of complicity in the rebellion of Thomas Earl of Lancaster against the king, and was extorted to give up all his right and interest in the castle and town of Dudley to Hugh le Despencer.1 He died circa 1359.1

John married Magaret de Somery. Magaret was born in 1290. She was the daughter of Roger de Somery. She died in 1384 .
John - With the death of John de Somery in 1322 the extensive estates of the Barony of Dudley entered into a period of confusion and disputed ownership.
Only in 1327 did John de Sutton, after imprisonment in the Tower of London and the extraction of a forced disclaimer to the property, eventually inherit the family estates of his wife Margaret de Somery.
The Castle had a relatively calm succession of the de Sutton lords, all name John.
