About Joseph HaLevy Goldschmidt Stadthagen
Probably he was named after his paternal uncle. His first sign of life dates from 1675, when he visited the Leipzig fair. The last sign of life is from March 17, 1707, when a document mentions "Hoff Faktor Jobst Goldschmit", who transfers a debt of 21,814 Reichsthaler to Wolf Goldschmit. Jewish sources call him Joseph Statthagen.
