About Joseph Upritchard
Joseph is thought to have lived on farm-28a in the townland of Corcreeny in County Down, N.Ireland. In the Griffiths Valuation of Ireland (1864) his father is recorded as John Bridget and yDNA may be required to prove the Uprichard-Bridget link in Corcreeny. The family emigrated to New Zealand on the ZELANDIA in 1862 with 3 children, Rebecca, John and Eleanor, all subsequent children were born in NZ at either Akaroa or Loburn in Canterbury. The surname was changed to the Upritchard spelling following publication of the Griffiths Valuation, the spelling for all Upritchard families in Down and in Magheralin Parish. Uprichard spelling was used in Armagh. Refer CORCREENY TO CANTERBURY; ISBN 978-0-473-20550-8; 150 years of the Upritchard family in New Zealand.
