There was a thread on the Vernons of Harleston, co. Derby (spelled
Harlaston in the thread) back around May 2001 - this also got into some of
the confusing issues re: the earlier generations.

I haven't attempted to propose a definite line for the Vernons of
Harleston prior to the generation you have brought up, primarily because I
have not found sufficient sources to help sort out the confusion (the two
sources I have to hand being a partial account from Burke's, and the Vernon pedigree from R. Barnes, British Roots of Maryland Families [1999]).

The record from CP seems to concur with the MC 5th edition version, that
the descent from de Vesci died out [thereby negating the line given in AR7].

The table of descent from William de Ferrers, Earl of Derby (d. bef 29 Mar
1254) by Sibyl le Marshal, given in CP Vol IV (Derby), p. 199, shows the
following:

Agnes = William de Vescy
d. 11 May 1290 I of Alnwick and Malton
I d. 22 Oct 1253
______________I___________________
I I
John de Vescy William de Vescy
dsp 10 Feb 1288/89 d.s.p.s. 19 July 1297
I
I
John de Vescy
dsp Sept 1294

The _Final Statement_ at the end of this line in the table states, _Issue
of Agnes failed 1297_. This should be corroborated under any CP article
concerning de Vesci, which I do not have to hand; therefore, it appears that the de Vesci connection for the Vernons of Harleston fails.

Hopefully someone else has arrived at a corrected descent for Vernon down to this generation, or will in the near future.
