About Lucy Stockett

PLEASE DO NOT MERGE THIS PROFILE.

I am trying to keep things simple, for now.

Born c. 1534, probably her maiden name was either Marwood or Beane. She first married Edward Wayland, Scrivener, of London, by whom she had two sons: Edmond and Henry. Then she married Lewis Stockett (c.1530-1579), who was Surveyor of Works for Queen Elizabeth Ist. They had at least four children: Jane/Joane (c. 1557-1628, Mrs. Walter Aylworth), Thomas (c. 1560-1597), Humphrey (c. 1562-1606), John (c. 1564-1620). Some sources attribute a son named Aylworth. I think this is a misunderstanding of something in Lucy's will. (She wrote "my sonne Aylworth," but I believe this was in reference to her son-in-law.) There is a memorial panel for her in St. Stephen's Church, Hackington, near Canterbury, Kent. Some of her descendants came to Maryland in the 1650s.
