John Finch died 5 Sep 1657, in Stamford. The inventory of his estate filed in Stamford bears the date 9th, 12th mo. 1658. His widow, Martha, married as her second husband Sept 1658 John Green.

An article by Shirley Martin in the Connecticut Nutmegger identifies John's second wife as Martha Brett and assigns her five children: John, Isaac, Samuel, Martha, and Joseph. (Abraham not included. The author writes, "One record only lists a son Abraham").[6] We do not know where Martin found her information, and other genealogists do not list a daughter, Martha.
Genealogists disagree about the parentage of children, Martha and Abraham. Martin includes Martha and not Abraham. Anderson includes Abraham and not Martha.
Clearly, the mother of son John was the first unnamed wife of John Finch. The dates would not make sense otherwise.
