About Marthinus Steyn

Marthinus Steyn, ook bekend as 'Blinkstewels' het saam met sy vader waens gebou, en toe hy van die waens in die Vrystaat moes gaan aflewer, ontmoet hy daar sy aanstaande vrou. Sy was die dogter van kommandant Mattheus Wessels en Cecilia de la Rey. Na sy huwelik vestig hy hom op die plaas Josephinesdal, distrik Winburg. In 1858 gaan boer hy in Bloemfontein distrik, maar woon later in Bloemfontein. Hy dien as lid van die uitvoerende raad onder verskeie Vrystaatse presidente.
