About Maud, Duchess of Brittany
30. Princess Maud FitzRoy of England (Henry I "Beauclerc" of , William I the Conqueror of ) was born about 1091 in England.
Maud married Duke Conan III of Brittany son of Alan IV of Cornwall Duke of Brittany and Ermengarde of Anjou before 1113. Conan was born about 1093/1096 in Bretagne, Indre, France. He died on 17 Sep 1148. Conan was born in 1096.
1 NAME Conan III "le Gross" /de Bretagne/ Conan and Maud had the following children:
72 F i Bertha of Brittany.
Bertha married Alan de Bretagne 1st Earl of Richmond son of Stephen de Bretagne Count of Treguier and Hawise Sourdeval. Alan was born about 1116. He died in 1146.
Alan was made Earl of Cornwall by King Stephen of England, in recognition of Alain Le Roux's brother Brian who formerly possessed Cornwall, but was deprived by Ranulph de Gernon, 2nd Earl of Chester after the Battle of Lincoln (1141). Chester's grandson was made Duke of Brittany jure uxoris with Constance, Duchess of Brittany, which made him automatically Earl of Richmond likewise.
His heir by Bertha was Conan IV, Duke of Brittany and an illegitimate son was Brian Fitz Alan, progenitor of the Bedale seigneurs. They also had Constance, who married Alan III, Vicomte of Rohan and Enougen, abbess of St. Sulpice.

74 M iii Hoel III of Cornwall Duke of Brittany died in 1156.
He was disinherited by his father, who claimed that Hoel was a bastard and not his legitimate son at all. Thus his sister Bertha became heiress to Duke Conan's lands in Brittany, alongside her husband Eudes, Viscount of Porhoet, while Hoel was allowed to remain in the Count of Nantes. He was accused by St. Bernard of Clairvaux of having an incestuous affair with his sister Bertha.
In 1156 the Nantaise rebelled against Hoel and drove him out of the country; he died shortly afterward, possibly at the Cistercian abbey of Melleray.
