About Nicola Braybrook
As Sir Thomas Chaworth's History of Parliament biography makes clear, while his first wife was indeed called Nicola, and her daughter Elizabeth did indeed marry le Scrope, her family cannot now be identified. Moreover, her mother does not appear in Sir Gerard Braybrooke's History of Parliament biography. The suspicion must be that the Scropes of Masham invented this part of their genealogy to cover up embarrassing gaps in the genealogical record.
