Phillip Chavis was born in 1730 in Granville, NC, United States. His parents were William Chavis, I and Frances (Gibson) Smith-Chavis. who were in with the Catawba Confederation. Phillip died before seeing the Kingston Co Petition of 1809 develop in what became Horry Co, SC however the community of Lott, Pounds, Hatcher, et. al were signatories on that Petition which is logged with Horry Co. Historical Society and viewable online.
Phillip married Selah Chavis. Together they had the following children: Ishmael Chavis; Erasmus Chavis; Peggy Chavis; Parrot Chavis; Erasmus Chavis.
He died in 1780 and was buried in NC, United States.
