'Hole' (Old English: Cut into a hillside) is a Grade II* Listed medieval farmstead, centred around a traditional thatched cob and stone Devon longhouse. Records date back to 1330 when it was owned by one 'William de Hole', and throughout later history, Hole farm has been a Yeoman farmer's home.
Richard Jackson seems to have moved from Brixham shortly after 1587 and into Paignton, four miles away, in 1599 or shortly before. In 1602 when he was named administrator of the estate of his brother Thomas, he was called a cordiner of Paignton. The last two of his children to marry --- apparently after their father's death --- did so in the parish of St. Saviour, Dartmouth, where perhaps they were living with their older brother, Richard, whose whereabouts at this time are not known'
