Founder member and 15th Knight of the Order of the Garter in 1348; was born 1295 in Dunmow Essex. He married Ada de Botetourte in 1335. Founder member of the Knights of the Garter.

Richard's wife Ada de Botetourte was the daughter of John I de Botetourte Lord Botetourte and Maud Fitz Thomas; the daughter of Sir Thomas Fitz Otes and great-granddaughter of William de Longespée, 3rd Earl of Salisbury the son of Henry II of England
