Samuel Holloway, Sr.

Samuel Holloway Sr. was born about 1766 in Virginia, his parents unknown. He died before 21 Mar. 1857 in Madison Co., AL. He married his first wife Rebecca MNU in Virginia in about 1792, and married his second wife Cary Wheeler in Madison Co., AL in 1826. He had children with both wives.

Reynolds on 5 Jun. 1822 in Bedford Co., VA, died after 1850 in Polk Co., IA; Nancy, born about 1794, married Samuel D. Clark on 3 Nov. 1807 in Bedford County, died after 11 Mar. 1874 in Madison County; Thomas, born about 1796, married Martha Atkins on 4 Jan. 1826 in Madison County, served in the War of 1812, died 16 May 1854 in Madison County; Joseph Hubbard (Reverend), born 16 May 1798, married Sally Holland on 27 Jul. 1820 in Bedford County, died 19 Nov. 1869 in Lincoln Co., TN; Sarah, born 16 Jan. 1799 (this DOB conflicts with the birth of her brother eight months earlier), married George E. Taylor on 5 Jan. 1826 in Madison County, died 7 Mar. 1881 in Boone Co., AR; Jesse H., born about 1800, married Mary A. before 1830, died after 1860; John H., born about 1803, married Susan McCartney on 22 Dec. 1824 in Madison County, died before 1866 in Arkansas; Simon Minton, born 9 Jul. 1810, married first to Sophia F. Samuel and Rebecca seem to have been the unproven parents of Rhoda Holloway, born about 1802, who married William Henry Jones on 23 Jan. 1823 in Madison County. Rhoda died before Sep. 1841, when her widower William Jones (1799–1864) married Mrs. Clarissa J. (Sanders) Berry on 5 Sep. 1841 in Franklin Co., TN. (Madison Co., AL and Franklin Co., TN are adjoining counties.) Because Rhoda Holloway Jones was not a proven daughter of Samuel and Rebecca of Madison County, she has been commonly misidentified as a granddaughter of Samuel Holloway Sr. and Rebecca Hubbard of Cumberland Co., VA and Jasper Co., GA through their son John Holloway, who married Mary "Molly" Hubbard.

Samuel Sr. and his second wife Cary Wheeler were the parents of: Martha, born about 1828, married Littleberry Sullivan on 20 Nov. 1850 in Madison County, died after 1870; Mary, born about 1830, marriage and death unknown; and Frances C., born about 1833, married Miles Reese Neaves on 7 Dec. 1850 in Madison County, died after 1880 in Lee Co., MS (killed by lightning while sitting on her front porch).
