Silvester was baptized Alderley, Gloucestershire 24 August 1557, daughter of Matthew Poyntz and Winifred Wilde.[1][2] From, F. S. Hockaday, "Abstracts of ecclesiastical records relating to the Dioceses of Worcester and Gloucester," "Aug. 24. [1557] Sylvestris, dau. of Mr Matthew Payntz," baptized.[3]

Silvester Poyntz was a descendant of King Edward I[4] and also of Richard Woodville, father in law of King Edward IV and great grandfather of King Henry VIII.

[9]

Edward probably died shortly after writing the will. On 11 August 1583, "Mris Norice" baptized her son Edward, at Alderly,[10] and as "Mrs Norice," she buried son Matthew there on 17 August 1583.[11] Her husband was succeeded as the vicar of Tetbury on 19 October 1583 by Henry Walmsley.[12][13]

At Alderley, on 19 February 1587[/8], "Mr Xp[ist]ofer Kingskot & Mris Norice" were married.[14][15] They are "'Christopher Kingescott' married to 'Silvester d[aughter] to Mathew Points of Aderley'" in the Visitation of Gloucestershire.[16][17]

Her father-in-law Richard Norris died Tetbury, before 21 December 1588, for on that date, "Sylvester Kingscott otherwise Norris," entered a caveat, "not to grant administration of the goods of 'Richard Norris, deceased,' late of Tetbury, until [she] be first called, &c."[18]

The Kingscote family were an ancient family of gentry in possession of Kingscote Manor, 6 milies SE of Coaley, since the 1200s.

She is incorrectly identified as Anne in the Visitation of Gloucester[19] and on some online trees, but named as Silvestre in her husband's will and other pedigrees.

1557, August 24, Alderley, Gloucestershire, England
Sylvestris daughter of Mr Matthew Poyntz

Notes

“It is interesting to note that Edward Norris spelled his name "Norris" while having spelled his father's name "Norice". This changing of the spelling was still common even into the nineteenth century in America. The wife of Edward Norrice I was Pilaster -. Their son was Edward II.”
