From THE "MALPAS" FAMILY IN CHESHIRE By Darrell Wolcott
c. William ap David ap William ap David ap William II ap Sir William, born c. 1180, married Beatrix, daughter of Robert de Montalt, seneschal to the Earl of Chester.
2. Pedigree from Ormerod's History of Cheshire, vol 2, 598:
Neither David in this pedigree is the man called "le Clerk". The man at the top is David of c. 1150 ap William ap David ap William II ap Sir William.
The first William in the chart was born c. 1180 and did marry Beatrix, daughter of Robert de Montalt. This Robert de Montalt was descended from the family of seneschals who served the Earls of Chester, being born c. 1160 and the son of the elder Robert de Montalt, the latter being a son of Ralph fitz Norman.

Additional Notes: William, husband of Beatrix, has been noted as living in the reigns of Stephen and Henry II. This verifies the approximate birth year of William to be around 1030. Meanwhile Beatrix could be as young as having been born in the mid 1040’s. Although all of this fits with the generations prior to this one, there is a problem with the next generation as they are shown on pedigree charts and with the documentation we have for Sir David le clerk. Documentation tells us that David was a sheriff in 1252. Other sources give the birth dates for this generation in the 1210 to 1220 time period. If the above is true and does seems to be accurately documented in several places, then Beatrix would easily be in her 50’s and William would be in his 80’s at the time of the births. Our first appraisal of this line seemed to suggest that there was a generation not accounted for. After careful analysis and checking the documentation and searching for others, the generations as we have presented them work well on a timeline and fit the records that we are aware of. The records and documentation of Sir David’s generation, his children and their records seem in good order. The problem then appears to be between the generation of William and Beatrix and that of Sir David le Clerk’s generation. We believe that William and Beatrix did indeed have a David, but not David le Clerk. Their David was the father of Sir David le Clerk, making William and Beatrix the grand parents of Sir David and his siblings. Thus you will notice that another generation, namely David son of William and Beatirx has been added to the published genealogies.
