Biographical Summary
"Francis Kinlock of Gilmerton, son of Andrew Kinloch, a merchant of Rochelle, purchased the estates of Gilmerton, Athelstaneford, and Markle, all in co. Haddington, having a charter of Markle, 24 July 1664; was a Commissioner of Supply; was, before 1674, Lord Provost of Edinburgh; M.P. [S] for Edinburghshire, 1678, and was created a Baronet [S], as above, 16 September 1686, with rem. to heirs male of his body. He married Magdalen, daughter of Macmath of Newbyres. She died 16 November 1674, aged 59, and was buried in the Greyfriars, Edinburgh. He was buried there 17 December 1691."
