Sir Richard de Molyneux, Knight, Lord of Sefton

Richard de Molyneux was born c.1232, probably at Sefton, Lancashire, England. He was the son of Sir William de Molyneux, Lord of Sefton, and wife Margaret de Thornton. He succeeded to the title Lord of Sefton at his father's death. Richard de Molyneux died c. 1320 at Sefton, Lancashire, England.

He married Emma Donne, daughter of Sir Richard Donne of Utkinton. Dugdale's Visitation of Lancashire lists seven children for this couple - William, the heir, who married Isabell Scaresbrick; Robert; Agnes, who married Hugh Banastre of Forneby; Joan, who became a nun; Alicia, Thomas; and Peter.

A few sites list Richard with an alternative name of John. Other children are listed on other sites, but Dugdale is the recognized authority. One site lists Emma Donne as born in "Gascony, Lancashire, England." Gascony is in France, not in Lancashire, and the Utkintons made their home in Cheshire, not Lancashire.
