About Sir Thomas III de Furnival, 1st Lord de Furnival
Thomas de Furnivalle, 1st Lord Furnival was born c.1260 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England the son of Sir Thomas de Furnival, Lord of Hallamshire. He first married Joan le Despenser, daughter of Sir Hugh le Despenser, 1st Lord Despenser and Aliva Basset, before January 1272/73. He was created 1st Lord Furnival by writ of summons to Parliament 24 June 1295; he fought at the Battle of Falkirk against the Scots in 1298. He secondly married Elizabeth de Montfort, widow of William, 2nd Baron Montagu and daughter of Piers de Montfort and Matilda de la Mare, for which marriage he was pardoned and fined £200 on 8 June 1322 for marrying her without royal licence. He died before 18 April 1332 Sheffield Castle, Yorkshire, England.

The 1st Lord (Baron) Furnivall(e) married 2nd by 8 June 1322 Elizabeth (died Aug 1354), widow of 2nd Lord (Baron) Montagu of the 1299 creation and daughter of Sir Piers de Mo(u)ntfort, of Beaudesert, Warwicks, and died just prior to 18 April 1332, having had another son William, whether by his 1st or 2nd wife is unknown.
