The Beeman Surname is of English and French origin, with most current family histories being anglicizations of the French Beaumont or the English Beamond or Beamont.
In the United States, those with the Beeman surname typically come from one of the following lines of descent:
- Descendants of a group of Beeman brothers that landed in the Boston, Massachusetts area in the early 1700s. Most all of these descendants use the Beeman spelling, and descendants spread throughout New England, and West to New York and Michigan.
- Descendants of Jeremiah Beaman and Ruth Barrow, who settled in Greene County, North Carolina in the early 1800s. The descendants spread throught North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas. Most of these descendants use the Beaman spelling, although a small group of those that settled in Missouri used the Beeman spelling.
-Descendants of John Beaman and Margaret Hunter who settled in Rowan County, North Carolina in the late 1700's. John Beaman was a Patriot in the American Revolution, serving on the Safety Committee in North Carolina.John Beaman's son, James Beaman changed his name to Beeman. Descendants moved to Illinois, Missouri, Texas and California. Dallas, Texas, was founded by descendant of John Beaman.
- Due to the popularity of Beeman's Chewing Gum in the late 1800s and early 1900s, there are a handful of reports of immigrants, particularly those of Eastern European descent with complicated names, having their names changed upon entry into the U.S., based on a poster or advertisement of that gum being posted in the port of entry.
