The Australian Cobcroft family are descended from John Cobcroft of Keighley, Yorkshire, who arrived in Australia as a convict on the 2nd fleet with his partner (and later wife) Sarah Smith. They were allotted land at Wilberforce, NSW, which the family farmed for many years. A portrait of Sarah is held by the State Library of NSW.
John was born with the surname Cockcroft, however had changed his name at the time of his conviction for highway robbery.
