I’ve decided against a merge at this time. The GENI algorithm advises that the merge will be of two different trees and may create numerous duplicates, and since it is not within my purview at this time learn more about the two trees, nor resolve duplicates about whom I know nothing…
My tree is the result of finding out that the ancestors of the profile for David Robibeaux of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe were a notable family from Missouri who descend from French Canadian immigrants was enlightening, and the story I tell and the documents that support this and familial relationships in early generations are all presented and completely independent in research of the duplicated profile. But documentation is sparse on the other tree, and I don’t feel that I know enough about the family, or the creation of the family and related project, to make a merge now. I do note that titles are used that are taken from headings and do not reflect the normal use of titles and this also is a merge issue. The terms Filles du roi and Spanish Mariner (Matelot) are not titles, they are occupations or membership by default in a larger group.
Suffice to say that both profiles are now indicated as master profiles so that accidental overwriting cannot happen, although much of the data is the same, duplicates will remain and it is my feeling that collaboration should occur before a merge is finally mage.
